A milestone for the programme, the University of Rostock and the future of maritime engineering.

On 18 November 2025, the University of Rostock officially celebrated the launch of its international Master’s programme Sustainable Maritime Engineering (SME) with a ceremonial event attended by representatives from academia, industry and politics.

The event also highlighted the University’s broader vision for the future. Alongside inspiring keynote talks on cutting-edge maritime research, guests learned more about the planned Sustainable Engineering Center (SEC), a new interdisciplinary hub designed to connect education, research and innovation. With modern laboratories and teaching facilities, the center will strengthen collaboration between students, researchers and industry partners.

The official inauguration marked more than the launch of a new degree programme. It celebrated collaboration, innovation and a shared commitment to shaping the future of maritime engineering.
